   Mortons Neuroma

Morton's Neuroma was first described in 1876 by, you guessed it, Dr. Morton, from Vienna.

Morton's Neuroma is an extremely painful condition typically described as a burning, tingling pain of the forefoot and toes. The pain is usually found between the 3rd and 4th toes and is caused by the bones at the ball of the foot irritating the nerve that runs between the toes. It is more common in women and is made worse but cramming the toes into shoes that are too narrow. Excessive pronation of the foot also worsens the condition.

Occasionally this condition requires surgery but custom orthotics to prevent excessive pronation and proper fitting shoes will help reduce the pain and inflammation.
